PSHE/RSE
All children are taught Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) at St Philip Howard School.
Foundation Stage
In Foundation Stage, PSHE is embedded into their daily curriculum. The curriculum is taken from the statutory framework for the EYFS and is section 5 of The Development Matters Document:

In this document, teachers are given outcomes and guidance as to when children should achieve them. Foundation Stage teachers make observations during class and play to assess the progress made towards these targets.
Key Stage 1 and 2
Our PSHE curriculum is a bespoke curriculum which has been selected to meet the needs of our pupils. Two programmes are combined and they are from the following sources: Ten:Ten - Life to the Full and Twinkl. We also use local services e.g. Year 6 - Watford FC Positive Minds and the Mental Health Team - Body Positivity sessions.
Ten:Ten - Life to the Full is a Catholic scheme of work which we use for Relationships and Health Education (RHE). We then use Twinkl units to cover other aspects such as money, British Values (Diverse Britain), careers.
As well as weekly PSHE lessons, we also participate in Hertfordshire's Feeling Good Week which takes place every February. Activities and experiences during this week also cover areas of the curriculum and teaches Cultural Capital. See the Wellbeing section of our website for more details.
Intent: The aim of our PSHE Curriculum
- ‘We want our children to be educated citizens who engage in the world around them.’
- ‘We want our children to be equipped with essential skills for life.’
- ‘We want our children to know how to stay safe and healthy, be able to build and maintain successful relationships and become active citizens, responsibly participating in society around them.’
