Our School Catholic
History of the School
St Philip Howard opened in 1959 on Woods Avenue, originally named Blessed Philip Howard School. In its early years the school was staffed by the Sisters of Mercy, who lived in a nearby convent on Sycamore Avenue and supported the growing Catholic community in Hatfield. Following the canonisation of Philip Howard in 1970, the school adopted its present name and, over time, transitioned to lay leadership as a Voluntary Aided Catholic primary serving the parishes of St Peter’s Church and Mary Church.
Today, St Philip Howard continues to grow with its community while remaining faithful to its Catholic foundation and heritage.

Inspection Reports
We are delighted to attach our Inspection Report from the Diocese. We are very pleased that they clearly recognised that we are a school community with Christ at its centre.
Our pupils are fabulous and this was reflected on the day, in lessons, around the school, when they spoke to the inspectors and our Chaplaincy Team when they led our Remembrance assembly.
All staff across the school work very hard, on a daily basis and it is extremely rewarding when this commitment to our school family is recognised. The report accurately reflects the partnership between parents, parish and school that strives to achieve what is best for our children.
Thank you to the parent who summed up our school so well when they said, “in this school we see the Kingdom of God in practice.”
It is a privilege helping to lead our school and I am delighted and proud that the inspection report reflects what a truly special school St Philip Howard Catholic Primary is.
Every report has targets that we need to work towards to continue to improve. We will continue to act on the advice given and continue to strive for excellence in all areas of our school life.
Please take the time to read the reports.
Thank you
