Rainbow - Week 9 - Oliver's Vegetables

Our topic this week has been about Fruit and Vegetables. We read the story 'Oliver's Vegetables' and 'Handa's Surprise' and spoke about how and where fruit and vegetables are grown. The children shared their favourite fruit and vegetables.

In Drawing Club we watched an Animation from the Past 'Popeye', the children really enjoyed this. They had fun drawing Popeye, the spinach factory and something that they think is too heavy for Popeye to lift. We are really encouraging all children to have a go at writing captions. This week we have started to write on lines, the children have been doing very well at this.

In Maths this week, we have been looking at the composition of number. We know that 7 is made of 5 and 2.

In celebration of Science Week, we asked the children the question 'Can you eat a Rainbow'. We came to the conclusion that you can, a rainbow of fruit. The children created a rainbow fruit skewer, and most of the children ate all of the fruit on them.

Another Science Week activity was 'Camouflage Caterpillars'. The children in groups hid different coloured caterpillars (wool) in the grass, and then they had to swap groups to see how many caterpillars they can find. The children decided that green coloured caterpillars were hard to spot, because it is the same colour as the grass. And that black and red were the easiest to find because they are bright/dark.

We have also planted our beans this week, we are hoping to be able to watch them grow.

In RE, the children will begin to learn about Jesus' journey through Easter.

In Forest School, we will create 'Spring Perfumes'
